Birmingham City win the League Cup, their first trophy for 48 years. They also get relegated making them the second club to win a trophy and go down. They also become only the second club to qualify for Europe and be relegated.
On the final day of the season five clubs were separated by a single point with West Ham United already relegated. Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic won to stay up while Blackpool and Birmingham City lost to go down. Wolverhampton Wanderers lost 2 - 3 at home but survived.
