History

Burnley set a record of 30 consecutive games undefeated during the season. This would not be equalled until 2004.

Huddersfield Town make their first appearance in the top division.

For the second successive season, a second level club played in the FA Cup final. Wolverhampton Wanderers were the seventh club from that level to appear in the final.

A third level (called the Third Division) was formed as the League expands. In the Top Division, it was decided that home and away teams would share the income from games with a 4% levy to be distributed among the lower level clubs. This ensured equality amongst clubs.
