History

Tottenham Hotspur reached their eighth FA Cup final having won their previous seven. They lost to Coventry City who had never previously won a trophy.

Arsenal win the League Cup for the first time in their third final. League Cup finalists Liverpool had beaten Fulham 10 - 0 in an earlier round, equaling the record score in that competition.

Wimbledon arrived in the Top Division less than ten years after being a non-League club.

For the third consecutive year and for the only the fourth time, the top two clubs in the League were from the same city.
