History

Liverpool became the 5th club to win the League and FA Cup double. For only the second occasion, the top two clubs in the League played each other in the FA Cup final. This was the first all-Mersey FA Cup final. Everton became the fifth club to reach three successive FA Cup finals.

This was the third occasion (and the second consecutive) where the top two clubs in the League are from the same city.

Oxford United win the League Cup in their debut top division season.

English clubs did not play in Europe having been banned the previous season.

The Top Division clubs are awarded 50% of all television and sponsorship money, more league voting rights and reduction (to 3%) of the levy to be distributed to lower level clubs.
