History

Nottingam Forest became the first club since 1962 to win the League Championship the year after being promoted. They also won the League Cup.

West Ham United were relegated after 20 consecutive seasons in the Top Division.

Liverpool became the first English club to retain the European Cup. This was their third consecutive European trophy, a record for an English club. They also equalled a fifth appearance in a European final.
