History (England)

Ipswich Town won the Championship at the first attempt in their first ever season in the Top Division, a unique achievement.

Tottenham Hotspur retained the FA Cup (the first club to do so since 1952), qualifying for the Cup Winners Cup.

Chelsea were relegated after 25 consecutive seasons in the Top Division.

The peculiar rules for admission into the Fairs Cup saw Everton qualify after finishing 4th but not Burnley who finished 2nd.

Rochdale become the first club from the fourth level to reach the League Cup final, a feat that would not be repeated till 2013.

History (Europe)

The Fairs Cup produced the first occurance of a European final between two clubs from the same country (Barcelona and Valencia, both from Spain).
