History

Manchester United became the second club from England to win three trophies in the same season.

They won the League Championship and the FA Cup (for a record 10th time). This made them the first club to win the League and FA Cup double three times. A few days later they scored twice in injury time (after trailing by a goal for most of the match) to win the European Cup for the second time.

The Cup Winners Cup was discontinued. Winners of the FA Cup would, from now on, gain entry into the UEFA Cup.

History (Europe)

The treble of national League and Cup with the European Cup completed by Manchester United made them the fourth European club to achieve this feat.
