History

For the first time in League history the top two were the same as in the previous season.

Middlesbrough had never played in a domestic final before this season. They reached the finals of both the League Cup and the FA Cup, losing both. Middlesbrough were also relegated after being docked 3 points by the FA for not fulfilling a fixture.
