Only two clubs were relegated as it was decided to return the Top Division to 22 clubs the following season.

Arsenal won the Championship with one defeat, the fewest since 1889. Arsenal had had two points deducted and Manchester United one, after an incident in the match at Old Trafford.

Liverpool completed a run of 10 seasons finishing in the top two, extending their previous record set in 1980.

Tottenham Hotspur won the FA Cup for a record 8th time.

Manchester United won the Cup Winners Cup but lost the League Cup final.
