History

Newcastle United won the Championship (their first trophy) but lost the FA Cup final.

Towards the end of the season, Everton lost a match 2 - 1 at Woolwich Arsenal. This was a replay of a game previously abandoned because of fog. Everton had been leading 3 - 1. Had they won that game they would have been Champions.

Woolwich Arsenal (the future Arsenal) became the first club from London to appear in the top division.

No clubs were relegated because the Top Division was to be expanded to 20 clubs.
