History

Everton won their first trophy, the Championship.

Sunderland were voted into the League in place of Stoke. They would remain for 57 seasons up to 1958, a record that would not be broken until 1984.

Blackburn Rovers won the FA Cup for the 5th time, equalling the record set in 1878. They retained the FA Cup in successive seasons, a feat that would not be repeated until 1952.

Goal nets were introduced. The penalty kick was introduced. The penalty area markings would not appear until 1902.

No clubs were relegated.
