Two Libyan jets are shot down by USA warplanes off the coast of Libya. The USA wanted to
destabilise and remove the leader of Libya, Moammar Qaddafi. The USA had been holding military
maneuvers off the coast of Libya at the time.
Qaddafi had removed the previous pro-West government and had set up a welfare state for his people. In addition
he supported the Palestinian struggle for independence.
The presence of the USA military close to Arab countries disturbs people in the Middle East.
