Indonesia and West Papua
With the collusion of the United Nations, Indonesia annexes West Papua, renaming it as
Irian Jaya. Indonesia encourages migrants from other parts of the country to colonise the area which has a
diverse and unique culture and peoples. Any resistance is brutally crushed.
West Papua has a copper mining industry worth $1,400 million per year which is part owned by UK company
Rio Tinto Zinc. The company is responsible for pollution and the dispossession of local communities.
