Madhya Pradesh : Jabalpur

The Chansath Yogiri Temple is dedicated to the goddess Kali. The region was the centre of the Thuggee cult whose followers used to strangle victims to please the goddess. It is the origin of the word "thug". The temple dates from 1155.
